If you believe that you have suffered discrimination at work the Advocate Partners can help you.
Discrimination comes in many forms and can be related to age, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment and pregnancy or maternity. There are four types of discrimination you can suffer at work: direct, indirect, harassment and victmisation.
Direct discrimination is when you are treated differently to someone else because of one of the protected characteristics. Indirect discrimination is when a so called neutral rule serves in practice to disadvantage certain groups of people. In a famous case, London Underground was found to have indirectly discriminated against its female drivers when it imposed a requirement to move to a flexible shift system of working. The Court of Appeal said that a significantly smaller number of women than men could comply with such a requirement. Harassment is covered here. Victimisation is when you are penalised or punished in some way for raising concerns about a discriminatory act.
At The Advocate Partners we have dealt with many high-profile discrimination cases that have gone to the Employment Appeal Tribunal and Court of Appeal. If you feel that you have been discriminated against then contact us immediately and we can help you deal with your employer. We will appoint a representative who will help draft a letter to your employer setting out your concerns and we will represent you at any internal meetings.
