In “On Liberty”, which is probably the greatest defence of free speech ever written, John Stuart Mill condemned the “assumption of infallibility” - being so certain in the superiority of your own views that you seek to ‘cancel’ everyone else: “without allowing them to hear what can be said on the contrary side”. 

Free speech is not only a fundamental human right it is also an essential part of a democratic society. We all have the right to say what we think within the law. And if we don’t like the law, then we have every right to say so and campaign to change it.
